After nearly five years I’m ceasing operation of the icon section of my site.
Here’s what I wrote on the live site:

I am closing this section of my web site.
Updates have already ceased, but I will leave the pages up for a little while. If you wish you can take one last look.
This has nothing to do with the current economy, web development or anything like that. My professional work still continues to eat up my time with both web and creative projects.
Since the summer of 1995 I’ve had this personal web site, and in that site there began a single page with rare or Japanese icon links that weren’t easily located elsewhere. That quickly became a fuller list and for the first few years I was vigilant with updates and improvements. I began working more and more in the professional world and it took time and energy away from the site. Now I have come again to a point where I am better off letting this go. I cannot maintain this site as I feel I should, and I haven’t been able to so for some months. In fact, I know it went downhill and stayed there over a year ago. So it’s misleading to even continue to offer these pages.
I never promoted the site very heavily, but that wasn’t necessary. In a small way I became known for featuring a Japanese section. Then with the growth of the web a community burst forth and I could see how quickly the information I wanted to share was spread. So as the web grew my original purpose was lost. People knew where to look for sites. Much of what I was doing years ago no longer applies. The original “old-school” sites like The Iconfactory or Sara’s Icon Parade are still there along with so many more. The amount of work that these older sites have had put into them commands a lot of respect. And they’re still going…
My contribution is long done.
Thanks to all those that have sent along positive comments over the years. Thanks to Sara for her support long ago and for all those that took the time to link to me. I hope you found something you could use.
And thanks for stopping by one last time.
